Man City Dealt Major Blow as Omar Marmoush Ruled Out of Manchester Derby

Manchester City have confirmed that forward Omar Marmoush will not be available for Sunday’s Premier League encounter with Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium due to a knee injury.

The striker was forced off during Egypt’s World Cup qualifying game against Burkina Faso on Tuesday evening after sustaining the problem in the opening stages.

His absence at the Manchester derby is a setback for Pep Guardiola’s side and a potential advantage for United, as Marmoush has quickly become a key figure in City’s attack. Before the international break, he started two league matches and was among the team’s most direct threats in the final third.

Marmoush is joint-top for big chances created in City’s squad and sits third for both shots and successful dribbles per game, underlining his influence. The 25-year-old has already faced United once, playing in April’s stalemate at Old Trafford.

Injury Concerns on Both Sides

City’s worries may not end there, with John Stones also facing a race against time. The defender withdrew from England duty ahead of qualifiers against Serbia and Andorra after picking up a muscular issue, leaving Guardiola short of options at the back.

United are also managing fitness problems ahead of the first Manchester derby of the season. Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount suffered injuries in the win over Burnley but remain in contention, as neither has been officially ruled out. Cunha offered reassurance via Instagram, revealing his knock was less serious than initially feared, boosting his chances of being involved.

There is also uncertainty around Lisandro Martinez, who has been sidelined long-term but could return depending on his recovery progress.

United head into the clash aiming to secure back-to-back league victories, while City look to bounce back from successive defeats. Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim is yet to lose against the Cityzens since taking charge and will hope to extend that run in Sunday’s highly anticipated derby showdown.
