She crossed the finish line in 3:52:15 to win a gold medal ahead of Dorcas Ewoi, who came in second position to take silver after clocking 3:54:92.

Peres Jepchirchir – 1,500m Gold Winner

Peres Jepchirchir outsprints Tigist Assefa at the homestretch to bring the gold title home. After running 42 km in the streets of Tokyo, both Jepchirchir and Assefa entered the Japan National Stadium shoulder-to-shoulder. While the Ethiopian seemed to lead on the back straight of the track, Jepchirchir responded with a sprint in the final 100m, clocking two seconds ahead in 2:24:43.

Faith Cherotich – 300m Steeplechase Gold Winner (New Record)

Faith Cherotich claimed the victory after surging past Winfred Yavi in the final water jump and ultimately breaking the Championship Record in 8:51:59. From the start, Yavi kept a fierce pace, but the 20-year-old Kenyan stayed composed and matched stride for stride. As the race neared the climax, Yavi seemed determined to defend her crown, but Cherotich launched a sprint on the bell lap, and at the final hurdle, she unleashed a devastating kick, leaving Yavi trailing.

While Kipyegon took the lead for the better part of the race, Chebet surged past Kipyegon in the final 200 meters. Still, both women raised the Kenyan flag on the podium with Chebet taking the gold and Kipyegon the Silver.  Chebet’s victory is her second consecutive global 5000m title, and she has become the first woman to hold the Olympic world 10,000m and 5,000m titles.

Crossing the line, Wanyonyi stopped the clock at 1:41.86, which is a new championship record. Djamel Sedjati chased him down for silver in a season’s best 1:41.90, while Marco Arop had to settle for bronze at 1:41.95 in one of the fastest 800m races ever seen at the World Championships.
