Kenya’s Harambee Stars could soon benefit from the talents of Everton midfielder Tyler Onyango, with head coach Benni McCarthy said to be keen on bringing him into the squad. The 22-year-old, currently gaining experience on loan at Stockport County, has spoken of his eagerness to represent Kenya, while football analyst Alan Myers has shed light on the qualities he would bring.

Onyango, who is eligible to play for Kenya through his father, previously turned out for England at youth level. However, his recent interviews reveal a growing connection to African football and a strong desire to represent the country of his heritage.

Veteran British journalist Alan Myers, who has followed Onyango’s development since his academy days at Everton, singled out three traits that stand out in the young midfielder.

“I’ve tracked Tyler since childhood. His passing vision, ability to stay calm under pressure, and outstanding work ethic make him special,” Myers told Citizen TV’s Sporty Monday.

Speaking separately on The Added Time Podcast, Onyango opened up about his ambitions and affection for the African game. “African football inspires me. Watching so many African stars excel in the Premier League motivates me. I’d love to wear the Kenyan jersey, make an impact, and give fans something to cheer about,” he said.

He also praised Kenyan supporters, describing them as passionate and loyal. “The support Kenyans show their teams is incredible. Being part of that atmosphere and contributing to their pride would be an honor.”

Onyango highlighted his admiration for Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy, noting the former South Africa striker’s experience. “Benni is a top-class coach with an amazing career behind him. Playing under him would be a dream opportunity,” he added.

With Kenya undergoing a rebuilding process, Onyango’s versatility could prove useful. Comfortable as a central midfielder, he can also be deployed as a defender or right-back, offering tactical flexibility for McCarthy’s squad.

Tyler Onyango’s Profile

Born in Luton in March 2003, Onyango joined Everton’s academy at the age of eight and steadily worked his way up. His first senior appearance for the Toffees came in January 2021 during an FA Cup clash against Sheffield Wednesday.

To enhance his development, Onyango has spent loan spells in the English Football League with Burton Albion and Stockport County, gaining regular playing time and sharpening his skills. At 1.91 meters tall, he combines physical presence with technical ability, earning recognition as one of Everton’s promising academy graduates.
