Former Chelsea Star Sends Warning to Harambee Stars Ahead of Clash Against Senegal in Turkey

Senegal’s former Chelsea goalkeeper has issued a stern warning to the Harambee Stars ahead of their upcoming friendly encounter in Turkey.

The Lions of Teranga are coming off a 2-0 loss to Brazil in a friendly played on Saturday, November 15, and as they prepare for their next test against Kenya, Edouard Mendy has already made it clear that Senegal will be approaching the match with renewed hunger and determination.

Senegal is using these international friendlies as part of their broader preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations. Their defeat to Brazil at the Emirates Stadium in London exposed several areas of concern that the team hopes to address before heading into more competitive fixtures.

For Brazil, the victory served as a much-needed confidence booster as they continued gearing up for the next World Cup cycle. The match’s opening goal came in the 28th minute through rising star Estevao. The teenage sensation, who is set to join Chelsea, reacted quickly to a loose ball inside the penalty area before curling a superb left-footed shot beyond the Senegalese goalkeeper.

Brazil doubled their advantage in the 35th minute thanks to experienced midfielder Casemiro. After a cleverly executed free-kick from Rodrygo, Casemiro found himself unmarked at the far post. He calmly controlled the delivery and fired a well-placed effort into the top corner, leaving Senegal with a mountain to climb.

Kenya vs Senegal: Edouard Mendy Sends Message to Harambee Stars

Speaking after the match, Edouard Mendy reflected on Senegal’s performance and acknowledged that while the team showed improvement, they still struggled with technical errors, particularly in their build-up play and finishing.

He noted that the squad intends to take a closer look at the match footage to identify and correct those mistakes. Despite the loss, Mendy emphasised that the team’s confidence remains intact and that they are not discouraged by the setback.

According to the Al-Ahli goalkeeper, Senegal displayed several positive signs in both halves of the match—areas they plan to strengthen ahead of their next outing. He stressed that the team is fully focused on ending their international break on a high note when they face Harambee Stars in Turkey before returning to their respective clubs to continue preparations for the continental tournament.

The Lions of Teranga are scheduled to face Kenya on Tuesday, November 18, at the Mardan Stadium in Antalya, a match that is expected to offer both sides valuable insight ahead of future competitions.

“A better first half, a better match. I think we made some technical mistakes in the preparation zone and finishing zone. That is something that needs to be corrected. We are going to watch and analyse the match with a clear head, but we are not going to back down,” Mendy said in a video shared by Match360 TV.

“I think there were very good things in the second half and at the end of the first half. Those are the things we are going to rely on in our upcoming matches. We have a second match and we are going to finish well in Turkey against Kenya and return to our clubs before our final goals.”

Mendy concluded by reaffirming Senegal’s commitment to building on the positives from their performance against Brazil. He insisted that the team is determined to put on a strong display against the Harambee Stars as they continue fine-tuning their preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations.
