AFCON 2025 is gearing up to deliver unprecedented financial rewards after CAF confirmed the largest prize pool ever allocated for the tournament.
The upcoming TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to take place in Morocco, is expected to be the most lucrative edition in the history of African football. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled a record-breaking prize fund, signalling its ongoing commitment to strengthening the financial capacity of national teams across the continent.
AFCON 2025: A Groundbreaking $32 Million Prize Fund
CAF has confirmed that a total of $32 million will be distributed among the 24 teams competing in the tournament. This impressive amount continues the organisation’s recent efforts to boost financial incentives and support long-term development in African football.
According to CAF, the increased funding is designed to help national federations invest in key growth areas such as sporting infrastructure, youth systems, and improved player welfare programs.
AFCON 2025 will run from Sunday, December 21, 2025, to Sunday, January 18, 2026. The competition will take place across six major host cities, Rabat, Casablanca, Tangier, Marrakesh, Agadir, and Fes, bringing together the continent’s top talent during a rare mid-season international window.
The ultimate prize, both financially and in prestige, awaits the team that emerges victorious in the final in Rabat. The champions of Africa will claim an impressive $7 million. A nation that advances through all stages without elimination can see its overall tournament earnings rise to around $11.6 million.
The runners-up will also enjoy a sizeable payout of $4 million, reflecting the tournament’s elevated reward structure.
Teams reaching the semi-finals but falling short of the final will each collect $2.5 million, while the four quarter-finalists will earn $1.3 million apiece.
Even teams that exit earlier in the knockout phase are assured meaningful compensation. Each of the eight nations eliminated in the Round of 16 will receive $800,000.
Group-stage teams are not left behind. The two best third-placed sides that fail to advance will each earn $700,000, and the six teams finishing bottom of their groups will each receive $500,000.
Through this payout model, CAF guarantees that every participating nation leaves AFCON 2025 with at least half a million dollars, reinforcing the competition’s role in supporting football development across Africa.
