Harambee Stars Winger Boniface Muchiri is Positive About Ulinzi Stars' Potential

Boniface Muchiri has revealed how the experience he gained with Harambee Stars at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) is shaping his vision for Ulinzi Stars’ progress this season.

The 28-year-old winger featured for Ulinzi Stars in their second league match against Kariobangi Sharks on Wednesday. Despite an evenly contested game at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, both teams failed to break the deadlock, settling for a 0-0 draw. That result leaves Ulinzi with four points from their opening two fixtures.

Speaking after the match, Muchiri chose to focus on the positives, pointing out that the Soldiers showed resilience and discipline.
“We didn’t concede, which is a plus for us. Our goalkeeper Ricks Omondi kept a clean sheet, and the defenders alongside the midfield worked hard. For us in attack, we must now make the most of our opportunities to drive the team forward,” he explained.

Ulinzi’s ability to contain Sharks, a side known for their possession-based style of play, pleased the winger. However, he stressed the need for his side to be sharper with the ball when opportunities arise.
“We circulated the ball, but not quickly enough. Sharks are strong in possession, but when we win it, we have to make faster decisions and use it more effectively,” Muchiri added.

CHAN 2024 Lessons Fueling Ulinzi’s Goals

Muchiri believes his memorable displays for Harambee Stars during CHAN 2024 will benefit Ulinzi Stars this season. His standout performances helped Kenya reach the quarter-finals, with the winger providing crucial assists in key matches, including against Zambia. His efforts even earned him a promotion within the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) from Senior Private to Corporal.

Reflecting on this journey, Muchiri emphasized the importance of team unity and player freedom.
“For me, it’s about making sure everyone feels appreciated in the squad. Every player should have the confidence to express themselves on the pitch, because we are all equal and contribute in our own way,” he said.

Personal Targets and Leadership

As team captain, Muchiri has set ambitious personal goals to inspire his teammates and lead by example.
“My aim is to be better each day. I want to contribute goals and assists, with a target of scoring 10 and setting up another 10 this season to push the team forward,” he stated.

With his CHAN heroics, leadership role, and military promotion all boosting his profile, Muchiri has quickly become a central figure in Ulinzi Stars’ bid to return to their former heights. His drive to balance personal improvement with collective growth is setting a standard that his teammates will be eager to follow as the season unfolds.
