Portugal supporters are anxiously awaiting updates after Cristiano Ronaldo suffered an injury over the weekend, casting doubt over his condition just three months before the 2026 World Cup.
The 41-year-old forward is expected to undergo immediate medical assessment after picking up a muscle problem during Al Nassr’s 3-1 victory over Al-Fayha on Saturday. The development has triggered concerns about his readiness for what could be his final appearance on football’s biggest stage.
Ronaldo was taken off with fewer than 10 minutes left on the clock after indicating to the bench that he was in discomfort. Television footage showed him leaving the pitch gingerly before applying ice to his leg while on the sidelines. Although the full extent of the issue is yet to be determined, the timing has heightened anxiety among fans back home.
The upcoming tournament is widely expected to mark a historic sixth World Cup for the Portuguese icon, potentially extending his record for appearances at the global event. With the countdown already underway, Ronaldo will be hoping the setback proves to be nothing more than a minor strain.
Al Nassr head coach Jorge Jesus moved to reassure supporters, explaining that the veteran attacker had experienced muscle fatigue and would undergo further examinations to clarify the situation. The club’s medical team is expected to provide a clearer prognosis once tests are completed.
Before his substitution, Ronaldo endured a frustrating moment from the penalty spot. He stepped up in the 12th minute after teammate Mohamed Simakan was brought down in the box. Following a lengthy delay, his effort drifted wide of the left upright.
It marked the 35th missed penalty of his remarkable career. Despite that blemish, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has converted 181 of his 216 attempts from 12 yards and remains within reach of the extraordinary 1,000-goal milestone, sitting 35 strikes short of the landmark.
Asian Champions League Games Postponed
In a separate development, Al Nassr’s scheduled AFC Champions League Two quarter-final clash against UAE outfit Al-Wasl has been postponed amid rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
The Asian Football Confederation confirmed that several fixtures in the West Region have been delayed due to security concerns. The governing body stated that first-leg matches in the AFC Champions League Elite and other competitions involving West Region teams would be rescheduled, while fixtures in the East Region will continue as planned.
The AFC emphasized that it is closely monitoring the situation, prioritizing the safety of players, officials, and supporters as developments unfold.
