Details of the Personal Gift Cristiano Ronaldo Received from Donald Trump

Cristiano Ronaldo received a unique and symbolic present from U.S. President Donald Trump during his visit to the White House this week, but what was behind the gesture?

During the high-profile visit, Trump presented Ronaldo with a golden key to the White House, a personalized token the president reserves for select guests. The item, crafted specifically at Trump’s request, is not part of any official presidential tradition but rather a custom he has adopted for individuals he considers noteworthy.

Ronaldo traveled to Washington as part of a Saudi Arabian delegation led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The trip marked his first public appearance on American soil since the resurfacing of a 2017 rape allegation, an accusation the 40-year-old football star has repeatedly and firmly denied.

Trump greeted Ronaldo and his fiancée, Georgina Rodriguez, with a warm welcome, even offering a private tour of the Oval Office. Photos from the visit showed Ronaldo holding the ornate key while standing behind the Resolute Desk alongside Trump and Rodriguez. A source later confirmed to the Daily Mail that the object was indeed intended to symbolize a “key to the White House.”

The Portuguese superstar now joins a short list of people who have received the honorary key from Trump. Others include billionaire Elon Musk, former Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who was the first to receive the distinction in 2020. Ronaldo is the first athlete ever to be honored with the gift.

Trump Paying Tribute to Ronaldo

Another image from the meeting captured Ronaldo holding a miniature model of a B-2 stealth bomber which is the same aircraft type used in a controversial U.S. military operation in June. During that mission, Trump authorized strikes involving seven B-2 bombers and dozens of missiles aimed at Iranian nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. Trump later celebrated the action, describing it as a “remarkable military success.”

Shortly after the White House meeting, Trump shared his admiration for the football icon on his Truth Social account. “Ronaldo is a GREAT GUY,” he posted. “Loved meeting him at the White House. Really smart, and cool!!!” He paired the message with an AI-generated clip showing the two kicking a soccer ball around the Oval Office.

Ronaldo’s return to the U.S. has drawn significant public attention due to his long absence from the country, which coincided with renewed focus on the sexual assault allegations brought by American teacher Kathryn Mayorga. Since the accusations gained global coverage, Ronaldo has avoided participating in U.S.-based preseason tours and exhibition matches with Real Madrid, Juventus, Manchester United, and, more recently, Al Nassr.

However, the timing of his visit is notable. Portugal has already secured its place in next year’s World Cup, which will be hosted largely in the United States. Additionally, Portugal is scheduled to play a friendly match against the U.S. in Atlanta next March, making Ronaldo’s presence in America a growing topic of interest for fans and media alike.

Cristiano Supports the U.S. President’s Stance on Key Issues

The legal case involving Ronaldo was ultimately dismissed by a U.S. judge in 2022 after it was determined that the accuser’s lawyer had relied on stolen and leaked documents. Ronaldo had previously reached a $375,000 settlement in 2010, but the case was reopened years later before being thrown out.

Ronaldo and Trump have exchanged several friendly gestures in recent months. In July, Trump received a Portugal jersey signed by Ronaldo with a note reading, “To President Donald J. Trump, Playing for Peace.” In an interview with Piers Morgan, Ronaldo praised Trump’s influence, particularly on global stability.

“He is one of the guys who can help change the world,” Ronaldo said. “The U.S. President is incredibly important, and he’s someone I would like to meet to have a proper conversation.”

Despite the positive tone of his U.S. visit, Ronaldo is now facing uncertainty on the pitch. The star forward risks a World Cup suspension after receiving a red card for violent conduct during Portugal’s qualifier against Ireland on November 13. Under FIFA rules, such an offense can result in a ban of up to three competitive matches.

Ronaldo has already served part of the punishment, missing Portugal’s final qualifier against Armenia. But with no competitive fixtures before the World Cup kickoff in June, any additional suspension would force him to sit out the opening matches of the tournament, a major blow for both the player and his national team.
