Eliud Kipchoge is set to return to Thailand as he prepares to compete in the half marathon at the Amazing Thailand Marathon in Bangkok. The race, scheduled for Sunday, November 30, 2025, will once again welcome the marathon icon to one of Asia’s most vibrant running events.
The two-time Olympic gold medalist and former world record holder will take on the shorter 21km distance as part of his duties as Thailand’s official Tourism, Sports, and Cultural Ambassador. At 41, Kipchoge remains one of the most influential figures in global athletics, boasting 11 World Marathon Major victories and a legacy that continues to inspire runners around the world. His participation is expected to elevate the event’s profile as he joins over 30,000 competitors on race day.
Amazing Thailand Marathon Bangkok: Participants to Compete for Royal Trophies
The 8th edition of the Amazing Thailand Marathon Bangkok, a key stop on the World Capital Marathon Series, will run from 2:00 AM to 10:30 AM. The route will start at the MBK Centre and finish at the historic Sanam Luang grounds.
Runners will compete for Royal Trophies graciously granted by His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen. Organizers aim to position the event among the top 10 officially recognized capital-city marathons globally. The marathon is jointly organized by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), with additional support from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, World Athletics, and Thailand Tri-League.
Eliud Kipchoge Thrilled to Be Back in Asia
Kipchoge confirmed via Instagram that he is already in Asia, though he has not yet arrived in Thailand. His first stop was Shanghai, where he attended to personal commitments. “It’s so good to be back in Asia. First stop: Shanghai!” the five-time Berlin Marathon champion wrote.
Kipchoge also took part in last year’s edition of the event, which drew 33,000 runners from 77 nations and showcased Thailand’s blend of sport and cultural tradition. During that race, he ran alongside Her Majesty Queen Suthida, guiding participants through some of Bangkok’s most celebrated royal landmarks.
Reflecting on his previous experience, Kipchoge noted how much he appreciated the cultural atmosphere and the opportunity to engage with runners from around the world. He described the honour of completing the 10km race with the Queen, surrounded by cheering crowds and stunning historical sites. “Thailand is truly amazing,” he remarked.
For Kipchoge, the event offered a refreshing break from the intense focus of marathon competition. It provided a chance to enjoy the sport in a more relaxed setting while connecting with a diverse community of running enthusiasts.
