- His new initiative itafocus na kupromote the ‘gospel of running’ worldwide
Marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge has brushed off speculation about retirement, announcing a bold new mission following his 17th-place finish at the 2025 New York City Marathon.
The five-time Berlin Marathon champion revealed plans to take on an extraordinary challenge by completing seven marathons across seven continents over the next two years. The initiative, he said, will promote the “gospel of running” worldwide while raising funds for the Eliud Kipchoge Foundation, which supports education and environmental causes.
Kipchoge emphasized that this next step is not an ending, but an evolution of his purpose. “For the last 22 years, my life has been about pushing limits, chasing victories, and breaking records,” he explained. “Now, it’s not retirement, it’s a transition to running for a purpose, a purpose to serve humanity.”
From Record Breaker to Global Ambassador
The upcoming “world tour” will see Kipchoge participate in several major events, including the Antarctica Marathon, known for its extreme conditions, where last year’s winning time stood at 3:38. While he plans to compete in professional fields, his recent performances indicate a shift from his dominant years.
Kipchoge clocked 2:14:36 in New York, marking the slowest marathon of his 13-year career and his lowest-ever finish. As he turns 41 this week, these results reflect the natural progression of an athlete who has spent nearly a decade at the top of world distance running.
Between 2014 and 2022, Kipchoge redefined marathon excellence, winning two Olympic gold medals and setting the world record twice, ultimately lowering it to a stunning 2:01:09. His historic sub-two-hour marathon in Vienna in 2019 remains one of the most iconic feats in sports history, even though it was achieved under special conditions.
A Legacy Beyond Records
Kipchoge’s impact extends beyond his marathon dominance. Earlier in his career, he won a World Championship gold medal in the 5000m and earned two Olympic medals on the track. His achievements have cemented him as not only the greatest marathon runner ever but also one of the most remarkable athletes in history.
The newly announced “Eliud Kipchoge World Tour” may sound like a farewell tour, but it’s more a celebration of his influence and passion for the sport. For millions of fans around the globe, witnessing Kipchoge run, even without another record, will be a reminder of a legacy built on discipline, humility, and the power of purpose.
