Faith Kipyegon Names Two Unsung Heroes Who Have Turned Her into a Record-Breaking Machine

Multiple Olympic and world champion Faith Kipyegon has revealed how two key people in her life have created the stability and peace of mind that allow her to consistently deliver historic performances on the track.

The Kenyan middle-distance great has often spoken candidly about the demands of balancing elite sport with motherhood. While the journey has not been easy, Kipyegon is clear that a strong support system has made all the difference in her career after becoming a mother.

Kipyegon’s life took a new and joyful turn when she welcomed her daughter, Alyn, in June 2018. However, returning to high-level competition was not without its struggles. In the early stages, she found it emotionally difficult to stay away from her child, especially as her training schedule required long periods away from home.

The three-time Olympic champion spends up to six days a week in training camp, leaving her with limited time to be with her daughter. Sundays are often the only opportunity she gets to spend quality time with Alyn, and the situation becomes even more challenging when she travels abroad for competitions.

Despite these difficulties, the 31-year-old has credited her husband and nanny for easing the burden. Their constant care and presence at home have allowed Kipyegon to focus fully on training and racing, a balance that has produced extraordinary results on the global stage.

Kipyegon Pays Tribute to Nanny and Husband

Since embracing motherhood, Kipyegon has enjoyed one of the most dominant spells in athletics history. She has claimed two Olympic gold medals, added four world titles, and broken world records in the mile, 1,500 metres, and 5,000 metres. She attributes much of this success to having uninterrupted time in training camp and peace of mind about her daughter’s well-being.

“It is very tough, especially when your child starts school and you want to be there for homework and everything,” Kipyegon told NTV. “But I would say it all comes down to the people around you. I am blessed to have a nanny who takes care of my daughter when I am away, and my husband is also very involved.”

Olympic Champion Thankful for Technology

Beyond family support, Kipyegon also praised her management team for creating an environment that allows her to focus solely on her career. She acknowledged that technology has played a vital role in keeping her connected to home, even when she is thousands of kilometres away.

“My management tells me, ‘We take care of this, and you focus on running,’” she said. “When I am at home, I spend time with her, and when I am abroad, video calls help a lot.”

Kipyegon added that as Alyn grows older, communication has become easier. At seven years old, her daughter now understands her mother’s profession and can express herself clearly, something that was far more challenging when she was younger.

Faith Kipyegon is married to Timothy Kitum, the 2012 Olympic 800m bronze medallist, who continues to play a vital role in her success both on and off the track.
