Manchester United Dealt Major Setback as In-Form Star Faces Extended Layoff

Manchester United have suffered a significant blow after it emerged that Patrick Dorgu could be sidelined for as long as 10 weeks following a hamstring injury picked up against Arsenal.

The Red Devils’ recent upswing in form has been tempered by confirmation that the Danish attacker, one of the club’s standout performers in recent weeks, is facing a lengthy spell out of action. Dorgu sustained the injury during Sunday’s thrilling 3-2 victory at the Emirates Stadium, a match in which he once again underlined his growing importance to the side.

The 21-year-old had earlier produced a moment of brilliance, scoring a superb goal to put Michael Carrick’s team 2-1 ahead. However, his night ended prematurely when he was forced to leave the field nine minutes from time, casting a shadow over an otherwise memorable win for United.

Early indications suggested the problem might be nothing more than cramp, but those hopes faded after further medical checks on Monday. Although additional assessments are planned, initial findings point to a hamstring issue more serious than first anticipated.

People close to the player have suggested that the exact length of Dorgu’s recovery remains unclear. While a 10-week absence is being discussed, there is cautious optimism within the club that this represents the most pessimistic scenario rather than a certainty.

Dorgu’s Versatility Has Boosted United

Should Dorgu be ruled out for the full period, he would miss a string of key fixtures, potentially sitting out eight matches. A possible return has been earmarked for United’s mid-April clash with Leeds United at Old Trafford, although that timeline will depend on how his rehabilitation progresses.

Dorgu has enjoyed a breakout spell since being pushed into a more advanced role following the exit of former boss Ruben Amorim. His adaptability has been a major asset, with Carrick repeatedly highlighting his ability to operate both as an attacking player and in a wing-back role.

The United manager recently praised the youngster’s influence, pointing to his work rate, intelligence, and overall contribution to the team’s structure. Carrick has been keen not to restrict Dorgu to a single position, believing his flexibility gives United valuable tactical options.

The injury comes at a frustrating time for the former Lecce man, who joined the club a year ago and had just begun to hit peak form. This season, he has registered three goals and three assists across 22 Premier League appearances, steadily growing into a key figure.

Dorgu now joins Joshua Zirkzee, sidelined with a calf issue, and Matthijs de Ligt, who is struggling with a back problem, on United’s injury list ahead of their upcoming home encounter with Fulham.
