Harambee Stars skipper Michael Olunga is set for an extended period out of action after picking up a serious injury that has effectively ended his season. The Kenyan international will now focus on recovery following confirmation from his club regarding the extent of the setback.
Olunga had already missed Kenya’s recent international fixtures due to fitness concerns, and further updates have now clarified the severity of the issue. His club, Al-Arabi, confirmed that the striker will spend several weeks on the sidelines, ruling him out for the remainder of the campaign.
Surgery Confirmed, Recovery Timeline Set
According to Al-Arabi, Olunga sustained a pelvic injury that required surgical intervention. The procedure was successfully carried out in Paris, France, and the player has already begun his recovery journey.
In an official statement, the club noted that the forward is expected to be out for approximately eight weeks. During this period, he will undergo a structured rehabilitation program under close medical supervision as he works toward full fitness.
Challenging Campaign Comes to Early End
With the Qatar Stars League season concluding on April 28, Olunga is unlikely to return before the campaign wraps up, marking an untimely end to his season. The injury cuts short what has been a relatively modest run by his usual high standards.
Since joining Al-Arabi, Olunga has featured in 17 matches across all competitions, scoring seven goals and contributing two assists. He made the move after a successful stint with Al-Duhail, where he enjoyed one of the most productive periods of his career.
Focus Shifts to Full Recovery
In recent seasons, injuries have begun to disrupt Olunga’s consistency, and this latest setback adds to those challenges. The forward will now be aiming for a complete recovery so he can return stronger for the next campaign.
His last appearance came on March 13, when he played 37 minutes before being substituted in a 1-1 draw against Al-Ahli. With his season now over, attention turns to rehabilitation and preparing for a stronger comeback.
