President William Ruto Celebrates Arsenal With The EPL Trophy

President William Samoei Ruto couldn’t resist poking fun at Manchester United supporters while expressing his faith in Arsenal’s title hopes this season.

Speaking during the English Premier League Trophy Tour event at State House, Nairobi, the Head of State proudly declared that the Gunners are destined to end their long title drought. The event brought together football enthusiasts and political figures, turning into a lively mix of sports excitement and lighthearted banter.

Ruto transformed what could have been a formal occasion into a cheerful gathering filled with jokes, football nostalgia, and laughter. True to his humorous nature, the President took the opportunity to tease rival fans while reaffirming his unwavering support for Arsenal.

He admitted that being a long-time Arsenal fan has not been easy, with the club enduring years of near misses and heartbreaks. Yet, Ruto expressed renewed optimism, pointing out that the team’s current form reflects a new era of confidence and flair.

“As many of you know, I am a proud Arsenal fan. It’s true the past two decades have been tough, filled with disappointments and close calls. But if you’ve been watching the Gunners recently, you can see it, the style, the swagger, the spirit. It’s all back. To our friends in the EPL and across Europe, be warned, Arsenal is back,” Ruto declared to applause.

A Gentle Dig at the Red Devils

The President also shared a heartfelt memory of his football conversations with the late opposition leader Raila Odinga, a fellow Arsenal supporter. “We lost one of our biggest Arsenal fans, the Hon. Raila Odinga. We always found time to talk about football, especially how our team wasn’t doing well. But I’m glad to see things finally improving,” Ruto said warmly.

Then came his comic twist. Just when the audience thought his speech had turned serious, he delivered a playful jab aimed directly at Manchester United supporters. “We sympathize with Manchester United, but that’s football for you,” he joked, sending the audience into fits of laughter.

Arsenal on the Rise, United Playing Catch-Up

Ruto’s comments weren’t without merit. Arsenal currently leads the Premier League standings after eight matches, recording six wins, one draw, and a single loss for a total of 19 points. Manchester United, meanwhile, sit in ninth place with 13 points, giving Ruto plenty of reason to tease their fans.

His remarks came as the Premier League Trophy officially arrived in Nairobi, courtesy of Guinness, the league’s official beer sponsor. The silverware will be displayed on October 25th and 26th at Bar Next Door along Kiambu Road, where fans can take photos, enjoy live match screenings, and participate in giveaways.

If Ruto’s words are anything to go by, Arsenal fans across Kenya might soon believe that the Premier League title is within reach. And as for Manchester United fans, well, as the President said with a grin—“that’s just the nature of football.”
