Sha’Carri Richardson has shared strong optimism about the 2026 season, expressing confidence that the year will mark a major chapter in her career and personal journey both on and off the track.
The Olympic 100m silver medallist revealed that she is looking forward to the upcoming track and field season with renewed determination. According to the American sprint star, she believes the year ahead presents an opportunity to achieve something remarkable not only in competition but also in her personal development.
Richardson experienced a challenging start to the year but appears determined to move forward with a positive mindset. The sprinter has since shifted her focus toward growth and performance as she prepares for what she hopes will be a defining period in her career.
Earlier in the year, Richardson was arrested on January 29, 2026, in Orange County, Florida, after authorities recorded her driving at 104 mph in a 65 mph zone. Officers reportedly observed the 25-year-old athlete tailgating other vehicles and moving between lanes on State Road 429, leading to charges related to dangerous excessive speeding.
The track star was taken to Orange County Jail but was released later the same evening after posting a $500 bond. Following the incident, both Richardson and fellow American sprinter Christian Coleman—who was also cited during the traffic stop—entered not guilty pleas through their legal representative.

In a recent interview with Athlos, Richardson explained that she feels highly motivated heading into the 2026 campaign. She described the upcoming season as an important opportunity that could shape both her athletic future and her personal growth.
The 2023 world 100m champion indicated that she plans to approach the season with confidence and determination. She intends to embrace the challenges ahead, compete with courage on the global stage, and remain committed to the hard work she has invested in improving herself as both an athlete and an individual.
Richardson said she believes the season could be extraordinary, not only in terms of results on the track but also in how she continues to grow as a person.
“Okay, honestly for myself, I’m super excited for this season because I have a feeling that it’s going to be something legendary. Not legendary just on the track, but legendary as the woman that I have been designed to be,” she said.
“And I’m super excited to actually take on the challenge to do that in front of the world. Not allow the world to make me shield myself, but to truly walk and embrace and stand firm in everything I know I’ve been working on.”
Richardson also highlighted the importance of Athlos, a women-focused athletics event founded by tech entrepreneur Alexis Ohanian. She described the competition as a supportive platform designed to elevate women’s sports and provide female athletes with a space where their talents can be fully showcased.
According to Richardson, the initiative reflects the belief many women athletes share about the value and future of women’s sports. She noted that Athlos is helping create meaningful opportunities for female competitors while strengthening the visibility of women’s athletics.
The 2023 world 200m bronze medallist added that she expects the event to continue expanding in the coming years, attracting greater attention and influence while maintaining its mission of empowering women in sport.
“Athlos is a safe haven when it comes to women’s sports. Athlos is at the foundation of the belief that we all feel inside of us, but actually creating the space to display it. And Athlos is going to continue to grow. Athlos is going to continue to get bigger, bigger, and better. And we’re going to continue to let the world know that women’s sports is here to stay,” she added.
