Igor Tudor Departs Tottenham After Brief Spell in Charge

Igor Tudor has stepped down as head coach of Tottenham Hotspur after overseeing just seven matches, bringing a swift end to his short-lived tenure in north London. The decision was reached by mutual consent, only 44 days after the club appointed the Croatian to lead the team.

Tottenham made the unexpected move to hire Tudor following the dismissal of Thomas Frank, hoping his previous success in reviving teams mid-season would spark a turnaround. However, the former Marseille boss struggled to deliver immediate results, losing his first four games in charge.

In an official statement released on Sunday, the club confirmed his departure: “We can confirm that it has been mutually agreed for head coach Igor Tudor to leave the club with immediate effect.

“Tomislav Rogic and Riccardo Ragnacci have also departed their roles as goalkeeping coach and physical coach respectively.

“We thank Igor, Tomislav and Riccardo for their efforts during the past six weeks, where they showed great commitment. We also extend our condolences to Igor following the recent loss of his father and offer our full support to him and his family during this difficult time.

“An update regarding a new head coach will be communicated in due course.”

Tudor’s final match in charge ended in defeat at home to Nottingham Forest on March 22, just before the international break. Shortly after that game, the 47-year-old received the devastating news of his father Mario’s passing. He later traveled to Croatia, where the funeral took place midweek.

His exit leaves Tottenham without a permanent manager at a critical stage of the Premier League campaign. The club currently sits just one point above the relegation zone, with only seven matches remaining in the season. Their next fixture is an away clash against Sunderland on April 12.

‘Tudor exit inevitable, just a matter of when, not if’

According to Sky Sports News reporter Michael Bridge, Tudor’s departure had long seemed inevitable. “It always felt like a matter of when, not if,” he said. “The timing, though, is significant given the personal circumstances he has been dealing with.”

Bridge added that the Tottenham hierarchy likely considered both the team’s poor form and the coach’s recent bereavement before making their final decision. Despite Tudor being well regarded within the club, the urgency of the situation may have forced their hand.

With relegation now a genuine threat, Spurs face a tense conclusion to what has been a turbulent season. The club must act quickly to appoint a new manager capable of steadying the ship and securing their top-flight status.
