Following a dismal display and subsequent elimination of Real Madrid from the Champions League by Arsenal, reports have indicated that coach Ancelotti is likely to be sacked. The club has decided to give him a last chance to win silverware when Madrid will later face off with Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final on 26th, April.
Jürgen Klopp, the former Liverpool boss, is heavily linked to the Madrid job in case the club decides to relieve Ancelotti of his duties. Klopp has already expressed interest and would be willing to negotiate the terms.
Real Madrid has experienced an underwhelming season, putting Ancelotti under immense pressure. Club officials have been considering a move for Jurgen Klopp, who is currently heading Red Bull’s global soccer.
A Brazilian news outlet has claimed that Klopp is increasingly getting tired of life away from the dugout and is also unhappy in his current role with Red Bull.
It is also claimed that Klopp is interested in negotiations for the Brazil national team coach in addition to the Madrid job. However, the interesting twist is that Ancelotti is lined up for the job once he leaves Madrid, freeing up a spot at the Santiago Bernabeu. Therefore, the stars are aligned for Klopp to take up the job.
Xabi Alonso, the current Bayer Leverkusen manager, has impressed in his managerial role, and there has been talk of him joining the ranks in Madrid. However, his club’s sporting director has indicated that they won’t be releasing him this summer.
Zinedine Zidane would also be in line to replace Ancelotti, coming back to the Bernabeu for the third time. Zidane is a household name and his past successes at the club have triggered talk about his return. While this could be possible, there is still little to report about the likelihood of him taking up the job.
Either way, Florentino Perez is determined to replace Ancelotti and it wouldn’t matter who among the three contenders comes into the dugout at the Bernabeu. Bayer Leverkusen won’t allow Alonso to leave, and Zidane has not openly expressed his interest in returning to Madrid. Therefore, Jürgen Klopp is the most likely candidate who will be available soonest to help Madrid topple Barcelona from the top of the La Liga table.
Jurgen Klopp’s Agent’s Response to Real Madrid Rumours
In an interesting turn of events, Klopp’s agent, Marc Kosicke, has poured cold water on the speculations that his client could be joining Madrid soon. Kosicke has emphasized that Klopp is happy in his role as the head of global soccer for Red Bull and would not take up a managerial role, either in Brazil or Madrid.
Kosicke has also clarified that Jurgen Klopp has in the past and recently received several managerial offers, but he still maintains that he has no interest in going back to the strains and stresses of management.
