Kenyan rising star Aldrine Kibet delivered a stunning performance for Celta Vigo’s U19 side on Sunday, scoring four goals in their emphatic 6-1 victory over CD Roces.
The Harambee Stars prospect reminded many of his immense potential with a dominant display, raising questions about his absence from the national team squad. Kibet, who has been enjoying an impressive campaign in Spain, responded to his team’s Copa del Rey semi-final disappointment earlier in the week in spectacular fashion.
The talented forward wasted no time making his mark, netting a hat-trick within the opening 30 minutes as Celta Vigo’s U19 team stormed to a commanding lead against their opponents in the Spanish youth league. His clinical finishing helped set the tone for a comfortable afternoon for his side.
Kibet was not finished yet. He returned in the second half to add his fourth goal of the match, capping off a remarkable individual performance as Celta Vigo sealed a resounding victory. The four-goal haul means the Kenyan youngster has now scored five goals within a week, underlining his impressive scoring form this season.
The former St Anthony’s Boys Kitale standout has been instrumental in Celta Vigo’s youth campaign this term. Earlier in the week, he played a key role in their Copa del Rey journey, contributing both a goal and an assist to help the team reach the semi-finals before their elimination on Thursday.
Young Forward Left Out of Latest Harambee Stars Squad
Kibet’s strong performances have not been limited to a single match. Early last month, he struck twice in just four minutes during Celta Vigo U19’s convincing 3-0 win over SD Compostela. He had also found the net in a thrilling 4-3 triumph against Atletico Madrid, a result that secured their place in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals in late January.
The 19-year-old appears to have adapted quickly to life in Spain following his move from Tarragona-based Nastic Academy last July, a transfer that marked a major step in his young career.
Despite his impressive form in front of goal, Kibet was not included in the Harambee Stars squad for the upcoming FIFA Series matches in Kigali later this month. Head coach Benni McCarthy opted to leave him out of the team set to face Estonia, Grenada and Rwanda.
Interestingly, McCarthy had previously given Kibet his first senior national team call-up last November ahead of friendly matches against Equatorial Guinea and Senegal.
