Charlton Athletic coach Nathan Jones has heaped praise on Collins Sichenje after the Harambee Stars defender delivered an outstanding performance on his debut and earned the Man of the Match award through a fan vote.

Jones spoke highly of the Kenyan international following his first appearance for the club on Saturday, highlighting how well he adapted despite limited recent match action. Sichenje was handed a starting role as Charlton travelled to face Southampton in a tough away fixture at St Mary’s Stadium. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with Charlton showing resilience to recover after conceding first.

Operating as a right wing-back in a system that featured three central defenders, Sichenje delivered a disciplined and confident display. The Kenyan defender also shared his happiness after the match, expressing pride in helping the team secure an important point away from home. He emphasised his desire to keep improving and contributing, especially with another key fixture coming up against West Bromwich Albion.

“It feels amazing to be on the pitch and help the team get a very big point for us, so it is a step to keep working and focus on Tuesday’s game,” he said.
