Harambee Stars winger Job Ochieng has committed his future to Real Sociedad after signing a contract extension that will keep him at the Reale Arena until 2028.
Although the club has not publicly disclosed the financial details of the agreement, insights can be drawn from standard wage structures within Spanish football to estimate what the 23-year-old could now be earning.
Job Ochieng Potential Earnings
To gauge Job Ochieng’s improved standing, it is important to consider league regulations. In La Liga 2, where he has been featuring for the reserve side, Real Sociedad B (Sanse), the minimum annual salary for a professional player is roughly €91,000 (about KSh 13.8 million).
However, Ochieng’s situation has evolved. Having broken into the senior setup under coach Pellegrino Matarazzo, he is no longer viewed solely as a reserve team player. At Real Sociedad, footballers transitioning into the first-team environment or operating on its fringes typically earn around €4,800 (approximately KSh 725,000) per week.
Since this agreement represents a contract extension rather than a first professional deal, it is widely expected that his revised base salary comfortably surpasses his previous terms, reflecting both his progress and growing importance to the squad.
Job Ochieng: Appearance Fees and Bonuses
In Spain, a significant portion of a player’s earnings often comes from performance-related incentives. As a product of the club’s development system who is gradually establishing himself in the senior team, Ochieng stands to benefit from match appearance payments.
Clubs in La Liga frequently reward players with substantial fees for matchday call-ups and minutes played. Whether he starts matches or makes substitute appearances — as he did during his memorable debut against Elche — each outing contributes to his overall earnings.
Additionally, win and draw bonuses can considerably boost a player’s monthly income, especially during strong runs of form. Reports indicate that Real Sociedad has allocated approximately €67.1 million (around KSh 10 billion) toward operational and performance-related expenses.
Following in the path paved by Kenyan great McDonald Mariga, Job Ochieng’s contract extension signals his rising market value. When factoring in a higher guaranteed salary alongside an attractive bonus structure, it is evident that the winger has secured a financially transformative deal as his European career gathers momentum.
